Frequently Asked Questions

Please read our FAQ before sending us a message.

How much does it cost to go reef fishing with Norseman?

Prices as of 1st April 2020 - $295 per adult and $250 per child. Includes $7.00 EMC (Reef tax)

What does the fare price include?

The fare price includes bait, handlines, rods, reels as well as a delicious tropical lunch and afternoon tea. We have a fully licensed bar on board - you can purchase soft drinks, snack and alcoholic beverages from our bar.

How many people go fishing on your boat?

Norseman takes a maximum of 20 on a shared charter. Being a 60 foot boat this means there is plenty of room for everyone to fish.
If you privately charter the whole boat for your group, you can take up to 45 people, however for quality of fishing we limit the number of people fishing at one time to 20.

What time do you leave and what time do you return?

Norseman requests our guests to board at 8am sharp. We depart by 8.30am and return at 4pm. The boat is berthed at the Reef Marina in Port Douglas, berth E11.

What fish are we likely to catch on Norseman?

It really depends on the time of year but owing to the fact that we have a super experienced skipper (with a huge stash of secret honey holes)- you can expect to catch Large Mouth Nannygai, Coral Trout, Long Nose Emperor, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel, Small mouth Nannygai, Trevally and Cod. We target reef dwelling table fish on shared charters.

Can I take my fish home with me?

Of course you can. The Norseman crew will gut and bag your fish for you to take home. We are not permitted to fillet fish on board the boat though.

Where do you fish?

Norseman has a wide selection of reef fishing spots, garnered from our 22 years local experience. It generally takes about an hour for us to reach most of the fishing spots.

Am I guaranteed to catch a fish with Norseman?

There are no guarantees with fishing - otherwise it would be called CATCHING!
However, our awesome crew, our years of local experience and our state of the art fish finding equipment will ensure you have the best possible chance of catching a great fish!

Can I arrange a gift voucher for a days fishing in Norseman?

Norseman Reef Fishing can provide gift vouchers for that special someone. Perfect for the fisherman or woman in your life. You can pay for the gift voucher with a credit card over the phone. We can email the gift voucher for you to print off and present to the lucky recipient. The voucher is open dated so that the re upset can choose what day they travel

Will I get seasick?

Even though Norseman is a big heavy boat sometimes when the wind is stronger, people can suffer from seasickness. We recommend that if you are concerned about seasickness, visit a chemist and get some seasickness tablets such as Kwells or Travalcalm.

In our experience it is best for people who suffer from seasickness to take medication the night before travel and then more first thing in the morning before the boat departs. Prevention is better than the cure for seasickness!

What are fin fish closures?

Fin fish closures are closures designed to protect coral reef fin fish such as Coral Trout. During their spawn period, Coral Trout aggregate in breeding schools. Closed seasons prevent anglers from fishing at certain times of the year to protect fin fish species at vulnerable times in their life cycle, such as during spawning seasons. Fishing is banned during these times. Fin fish closures occur:

  • 28 October 2016 to 1 November 2016,
  • 26 November 2016 to 30 November 2016.

During these periods Norseman does not run its fishing tour to the reef.
