James
Marine Operations Manager

One of our most important team members is our skipper James. James is a born and bred Queenslander. He has fished in Queensland for barra, crayfish and all reef species, bigger the better! He has also fished south west/north west Western Australia for Hapuka, Dhu fish, Samson fish, Ruby Snapper and all other reef dwellers.

  • Favourite style of fishing? Remote barra fishing, exploring new remote rivers and waterholes. Barra fever does exist!
  • Best thing about fishing? Fishing can be whatever you want it to be. Anybody can do it. Be by yourself or with a few family or friends. Sitting on a beach or riverbank with a 5-dollar handline to cruising the oceans in a multi million-dollar game boat. Some of my most relaxing days have been spent sitting on a riverbank, beer in hand, line in water not caring whether you get a bite or not. It can also be so relaxing yet so frustrating! Just when you think you have it figured out, something happens to make you question everything you know.
  • Best fishing trip/catch? Most memorable was a Barra trip we did a few years ago, fifty fish in about fifty casts, all catch and release. On the reef, years ago, over a hundred fish in an hour! Unfortunately that old school mentality we had back then has in my opinion greatly affected our fishing and catch rates today. So now, happy to watch people catch their fish of a lifetime, enjoy eating or releasing them. A good days fishing doesn’t have to fill the freezer.
  • My tips for fishing the reef? Keep it simple, adapt what you know to where you’re fishing. Enjoy your time on the water.

Kevon
Deckhand /Fishing Guide

Another important one of our team members is Kevon our gun deckhand and fishing guide. Kevon is also our photographer.
  • What age did you start fishing? 5 - When I was old enough to hold a fishing rod!
  • Where have you fished? North Stradbroke island, Morton Island, Fraser island. Have fished all the remote islands, and reefs of the Coral Sea - some up to 300 nautical miles off the east coast - fishing for Marlin, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphinfish (Mahi-mahi), and Giant Trevally. I have explored the whole east cost all the way up to Cape York and Thursday Island.
  • Best thing about fishing? It's very relaxing, you can take your mind off what the rest of the world is doing and is the best stress relief ever.
  • What's your favourite style of fishing to do? Have to be fishing for the ionic Barramundi “barra fever” and being in remote places exploring. Also my other favourite type of fishing is fishing for something that pulls back!
  • Best Fishing Trip Ever? They are all pretty good but one of the highlights would have to be bottom fishing off the Gold Coast In 500 meters of water. I caught My first Blue Eyed Trevalla weighing a massive 37kg on a tld 50 2 speed reel NO electric reel.
  • Best Catch Ever? 800lb Black Marlin.
  • What do you like about Fishing on Norseman? The speed of the vessel, the size of Norseman and Norseman being a custom built vessel for fishing with state of the art fishing finding electronics.
  • What's your red hot tip for fishing on Norseman? Handline fishing on the reef is the way to go, you can pull quicker, feel a lot more. Keep it simple and have a great time out on the water!
